new-to-mysore program at AYC

Mysore refers to the way we traditionally teach Yoga. A Mysore class is unlike other yoga classes. Students and one or two teachers are in the room together, but students receive individual attention from teachers as they practice a sequence of poses at their own pace and with appropriate assists and modifications. Gradually, each student builds a practice that is memorized and deeply understood. It is likely to be different than anything you have experienced in other yoga traditions, and we hope that you will love it!

In our Ashtanga New-To-Mysore program, you will be gradually taught the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. You will receive personal, one-on-one instruction from one of our teachers as you learn each new pose. You will be encouraged to start to memorize the series and we will teach you how to use props and modifications to safely and comfortably experience each pose. You will receive a handout that you may use during class and an information sheet to take home. We can also help you set up a practice schedule for your first month.

In our Black Lotus Yoga New-To-Msyore program, you will gradually be taught the First Series of this new and beautiful vinyasa sequence created by Ty Landrum. Black Lotus Yoga is a new form of vinyasa yoga designed to be practiced in the Mysore style. With six smooth and adaptable sequences, the system gives you a brilliant structure in which to explore. In Black Lotus Yoga, you are encouraged to explore, by playing with the postures, blending the variations, and rediscovering the internal forms. The idea is to make a ritual of listening to the body, of moving the body around the breath, and of holding space for the creative sap to overflow. This is the evolution of modern yoga—a potent, playful and forgiving practice that gives tradition new life.

Please register for your first class on our In-Person Schedule page. Your practice will take an hour or less. Cost for the first unlimited month is $60 and you may apply your first class drop-in fee to this if you want to try it out.
