Introduction to the Ashtanga Yoga Method — Cultivating a Personal Practice
This 2-part workshop (March 17 and 24) serves as an in-depth tour of the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series.  The overall goal of the course is to provide participants with the basic building blocks for a sustainable and enlivening yoga practice.
Suitable for all levels of practitioners from any yoga background — or no background at all.

John Campbell, Ph.D., has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga for the past 25 years.  He studied directly with Pattabhi Jois from 1992 until his passing in 2009.  He was Certified by his late teacher in 2001. He is a scholar of Sanskrit and Indo-Tibetan Buddhism living in Charlottesville, VA.

The Sun Salutation (surya namaskara)
We lay a foundation for yoga practice using the raw materials of breath, movement, and attention.  This serves as an introduction to the Ashtanga Yoga method.  *Emphasis on the postures that make up the sun salutation and the breathing system.

Breathing in Motion (vinyasa
Building greater familiarity with the breathing-movement system.  Working with standing poses  while engaging the breath and body awareness introduced earlier.
*Emphasis on the standing series of poses, forward bending postures, and cultivation of strength and balance.
